1 cup unsalted butter, softened
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract (optional)
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt
Royal icing or buttercream for decoration
Instructions
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix until combined.
Gradually add dry ingredients, mixing until dough forms.
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut out heart shapes.
Place cookies on the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
Cool completely before decorating with icing.
