  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (for the crust)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust:
    • In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Add chilled butter and blend until crumbly. Gradually add cold water until dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the filling:
    • In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until soft. Add ground beef and sausage; cook until browned.
    • Stir in marinara sauce, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Assemble the pie:
    • Roll out half the dough and place it in a pie dish. Fill with the meat mixture.
    • Top with mozzarella, Parmesan, and fresh basil. Cover with the remaining dough, seal edges, and cut slits on top.
  4. Bake:
    • Brush the top crust with egg wash. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35–40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. Cool and serve:
    • Let the pie cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
