Lunchroom Ladies Brownies are a deliciously rich, fudgy, and moist dessert that brings back nostalgic memories of school cafeterias. Made with simple ingredients, these brownies have a perfect chocolate flavor and a smooth, crackly frosting that melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

For the Frosting:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix melted butter and cocoa powder until smooth.
  3. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Stir in flour until just combined. Fold in nuts if using.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. While brownies bake, prepare the frosting: Whisk butter, cocoa powder, milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Spread frosting over warm brownies. Let cool before cutting.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them.
  • Let the frosting set before slicing for cleaner cuts.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
